Sadaka is an Arabic term that stands for voluntary charity in Islam. It is a voluntary donation or good deed performed out of charity and compassion for others

It is possible to donate sadaqa at any time.

"You will not attain goodness until you spend from what is dear to you. And whatever you spend, Allah knows about it." Surah Al-i Imran, 92

It has also become a tradition for some Muslims to pay sadaka in the form of a donation before setting off on their journey, in the hope of traveling as carefree as possible and averting harm.
