We send the donor an information message via SMS and a video about the sacrifice.
The donor can download the video to their smartphone or computer using the download button if they wish.
Depending on the donor's choice, either a sheep, goat or cow and, in the rarest cases, a camel are sacrificed.
In the case of a cow or camel, the donor receives a 1/7 share, as determined by Islamic jurisprudence.
How are your victims slaughtered?
Iddef is one of the few aid organizations that carries out the offering from purchase to distribution through its own employees and volunteers.
First, a team of employees travels months in advance to the respective countries in Africa, Asia, the Middle East or the Balkans where the sacrifice will take place. As part of the sacrifice organization, it is important to carefully select the sacrificial animals that must meet the sacrifice criteria. Local employees in the respective countries help with the organization of the sacrifice, these employees are usually employed as teachers (Imam/Hoxa/Hoca) in our educational institutions.
A few days before Eid-al-Adha (Feast of Sacrifice), experienced employees and volunteers travel to the countries to monitor and manage the sacrificial process and the fair distribution to the needy. During the slaughter of the sacrificial animals, care is taken to ensure that Islamic procedures and rules and animal welfare are observed before and during the sacrifice.
After the sacrifice, the slaughtered meat is checked by a veterinarian and distributed to the needy, especially in the regions where Iddef's educational institutions (madrasas) are located.
How does victim organization work?
The sacrificial ritual begins on the 10th day of the Islamic month of Zilhicce (Zulhidja). The sacrificial ritual of a donor is fulfilled by purchasing a sacrificial animal, granting a power of attorney, slaughtering an animal, sending a text message and distributing a sacrifice.
Information about the slaughter of the sacrificial animals is sent to all our donors by SMS.
Iddef records the moments of the sacrifices on video as proof and forwards them to its donors via SMS link. Each donor can decide for themselves whether they want to watch this moment. In 2024, 99.9 percent of the recordings could be sent to our donors. With the completion of the victim organization, we experience how people 1000km away share the joy, enthusiasm and elation with us.
The sacrificial service and its significance
So pray to Allah and slaughter a sacrificial animal (Al Kevser 108/2)
According to the tradition of Aisha (r.a.), the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: "On the Day of Sacrifice, the son of Adam can do no better deed that is more 'dear' to Allah than shedding the blood (of the sacrificial animal). On the Day of Judgment, this sacrificial animal will come with its horns, hair and nails (seeking forgiveness for the sins of the donor). The blood of the sacrificial animal will be accepted (registered) by Allah immediately, even before it falls on the earth. Therefore, because of the sacrifice, let your heart be filled with happiness and do not cherish resentment." (Ibn Mâce, Edahî: 3)
